Outgoing Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s disclosure that the US funded some Ukrainian biolabs exactly as Russia claimed sent social media into a frenzy. While some MAGAs led by Laura Loomer claimed that this supposedly proves that she and other people who can be broadly described as “MAGA dissidents” are part of a “Russian influence operation” (RIO), which was discussed here, others are proud of what she did since they remember being told by the government that this wasn’t true.
This video here shows former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki playing fast and loose with the truth. They can also read her eventual successor Karine Jean-Pierre’s tweets here where she did the same. Both denied that Ukraine’s US-funded biolabs were connected to biological warfare programs, but Tulsi just proved otherwise. The Biden Administration therefore lied to Americans, and many were consequently defamed as “Russian propagandists” for believing what Russia accurately claimed.
Anyone can still have whatever opinion they’d like about whether or not Russia’s special operation is justified in light of Tulsi’s disclosure that it was telling the truth about US-funded biolabs in Ukraine, but the domestic importance of Tulsi’s disclosure is that it those who were defamed are now vindicated. Moreover, the resultant intra-MAGA divide over this issue shows that a significant share of the movement led by Laura is now tacitly defending the Biden Administration on this issue, which is ironic.
The personal vendettas that they have against Tulsi led to them parroting Democrat talking points about RIOs all while the Democrats sit back and let MAGA tear itself apart over this conspiracy theory. To be sure, Russia, like all countries, does try to influence other governments and societies alike, but neither Tulsi nor claims of US-funded biolabs in Ukraine are RIOs. For whatever one might think about her personally and her political views, she’s not in cahoots with Russia, and the aforesaid labs veritably exist.
It’s unthinkable that the Democrats would ever fight amongst themselves like MAGA is doing. For instance, no prominent member of their movement on Laura’s level would ever condemn a Democrat official for revealing that Trump 1.0 or 2.0 lied about something of international significance, let alone accuse them and those who agree with the facts that they shared of being part of a foreign influence operation. This is unique to MAGA due to the many petty personal feuds within this movement.
The Democrats have every reason to exploit these divisions ahead of November’s midterms and then of course going into the 2028 presidential election in an attempt to recapture control of the government. While Russia dislikes Trump reneging on the “Spirit of Anchorage”, which is understood to refer to him promising Putin to coerce Zelensky into withdrawing from Donbass in exchange for ceasing hostilities, Republicans overall tend to be relatively (keyword) more pragmatic towards Russia than Democrats.
It’s therefore illogical to speculate that Russia is controlling “MAGA dissidents”, let alone the Director of National Intelligence under whose watch Trump 2.0’s Neo-Reagan Doctrine has rolled back Russian influence worldwide. This conspiracy theory only helps the Democrats divide-and-rule MAGA, the goal of which Trump loyalist Laura is unwittingly advancing by lending false credence to this kooky claim. Given that they’re friends, he’d thus do well to tell her to stop it and get back to fighting the Democrats ASAP.
