The episode of Esimene stuudio aired on April 15, 2025, featured Margo Palloson, Director General of the Estonian Internal Security Service (Kaitsepolitseiamet, or KAPO). In this broadcast, Palloson discussed key topics from KAPO’s annual report, emphasizing that Russia continues to view Estonia as within its sphere of influence and is actively working to undermine the existing European security architecture. The discussion also covered the persistent intelligence activities of Russian services, strategies to protect Russian-speaking youth from Kremlin propaganda, and the potential security threat posed by the Moscow-affiliated Orthodox Church in Estonia .ERR

—————————————————————————————————–

Today, I once again watched Esimene Stuudio, where Estonia’s security situation was reviewed by none other than the Director General of the Estonian Internal Security Service (KAPO), Mr. Margo Palloson. Director Palloson reassured the concerned Estonian public that everything is under control, KAPO is in top shape, and the security department is buzzing with activity like a summer beehive. Mr. Palloson proudly announced that 30 dangerous pro-Russian individuals have already been successfully put behind bars, and 17 have been expelled from the country. Such loyal work surely deserves a reward!

The main themes of the show included the following concerns:
👉 Russia still considers Estonia part of its sphere of influence.
👉 Russia is doing everything it can to destroy the European security architecture.
☝️ Mr. Palloson gave a detailed explanation of how active the eastern neighbor’s intelligence services are.
👉 How to protect young people from Kremlin propaganda.
👉 And whether the Moscow Church is a security threat to Estonia.

I listened patiently to the entire program and had to once again conclude how incredibly incompetent and psychologically paranoid the people in charge of Estonia’s national security are. Mr. Palloson spoke with a very serious face but uttered extremely infantile nonsense. It once again confirmed how distorted KAPO’s interpretation is of what or who poses a threat to Estonia’s security. The Director’s foreign policy vision painted Russia as our eternal enemy. Congratulations to all Estonians – our duty is now to hate Russians and Russia forever and ever.

Do the KAPO structures really not understand that a society held together by violence and hatred is never sustainable in the long run? Such a society ALWAYS collapses eventually. Civilized societies are typically populated by intelligent citizens who understand the importance of diplomacy and are capable of cultivating a culture of diplomatic dialogue with neighboring countries – both large and small.

In Estonia, diplomacy is currently dead, and the only emphasis is on military defense – even though it’s obvious that Estonia can never keep pace in an arms race with Russia.

Instead of diplomats, we have an entire army of paranoid security officials who have become so obsessed with their own fears that they see threats even in ordinary people – the very people Mr. Palloson described as “coming from broken families.” Honestly, it feels like Mr. Palloson himself might be the one from a broken family. He warned the Estonian people to be cautious because Russia is supposedly training “ready-to-launch” agents out of ordinary citizens who operate on social media and are difficult to directly accuse. No doubt he was referring to people like me, Indrek, Mario, Mihkel, and many others who’ve remained in the public eye and been labeled by the mainstream media as pro-Kremlin or Putinists – even though, in truth, we are just ordinary Estonian citizens who have dared to speak out against the government’s Russophobic, inhumane, and corrupt policies.

KAPO officials simply cannot comprehend the truth that not all Estonians are brainwashed sheep – many are still capable of independent thought. Many do not support the current internal political witch hunts or the government’s arrogant foreign policy stance. What kind of democracy or freedom of speech do we have if the voice of reason is branded as a threat to society?

Mr. Palloson was also completely convinced that the Russian Orthodox Church was deviously planted in Estonia by Stalin during Soviet times to spread pro-Russian propaganda. He asserted that the recent move to sever ties between Russian Orthodox nuns and the Moscow Patriarchate was entirely justified and wise. Truly, a big round of applause – what a bold achievement! We’ll soon have to explain ourselves in international courts for the human rights violations happening in this country.

From my perspective, Mr. Palloson’s approach to the issue of the nuns is absolutely absurd and paranoid – and only increases Estonia’s security risk. In a democratic country, there should be room for both Estonian and Russian nuns, and also for those who oppose violence, desire peace, and want to normalize economic relations with Russia – which would instantly improve the quality of life throughout Estonia. What’s so wrong or dangerous about that?

Throughout its history, Estonia has always been either in the Western or Eastern sphere of influence. Maybe it’s time we evolve and find a balanced position between the two that ensures both our security and economic well-being. I ask again – what’s wrong with that?

It is high time to put an end to political persecution and the arrest of people based on fabricated and paranoid accusations. All limits of humanity have been crossed, and this direction must be stopped.

Estonia urgently needs security experts with common sense and professionalism – not blindly obedient amateurs with twisted worldviews who understand neither geopolitics nor domestic politics. One begins to wonder: could it be that Mr. Palloson himself is the real threat to the state and the security of the Estonian people?
