The distinguished European politicians gathered at the Munich Security Conference are in shock and fury.
Their world is collapsing.
The first blow came with the speech by U.S. Vice President JD Vance, in which he accused Europe of restricting freedom of speech and democracy, stated that an unacceptable political censorship had been established, and that governing parties had built a political firewall between themselves and opposition parties. He also criticized Europe’s failed asylum policies.
This enraged the European political elite gathered in Munich.
Many saw it as blatant interference in the ongoing German election campaign, where the ruling parties are trying to keep the highly popular AfD from forming a government.
The second blow came in the evening when it was revealed that immediately after his speech, the U.S. Vice President had met with AfD leader Alice Weidel.
Since the organizers of the security conference did not allow Alice Weidel, the leader of Germany’s second most popular party, into the Munich Security Conference venue, the U.S. Vice President invited Weidel to his hotel instead.
A friendly and understanding meeting took place in the conference room of The Westin Grand hotel and lasted for half an hour.
A rather embarrassing situation also arose for probable chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz, whose meeting with the Vice President lasted only 20 minutes.
The only one who seemed pleased was Zelensky, who announced that President Donald Trump had given him his mobile phone number.
