Mario Maripuu — Why Does the Estonian People Fear Ülle Pukk?

For quite some time now, I have noticed hostile rhetoric toward Ülle Pukk coming from Estonians, and with this piece I want to ask people directly: why is this so, and what are we supposed to do now with Ülle, who today is an international peace envoy and appears in Russian media?

I also want answers from Estonians about where this Russophobia comes from — and ultimately, what we are going to do with the 30–40% Russian-speaking community, which continues to grow due to Ukrainian refugees.

Following my recent piece “Speaking Openly About the Estonian Resistance Movement,” the comment section was filled with attacks on Ülle Pukk — and I myself was labeled pro-Kremlin and much more.

Personal Experience With Ülle Pukk

Since Ülle Pukk is a member of the Plaan B roundtable and also my personal acquaintance since 2023, and I have participated with her in various podcasts, meetings, and private conversations, I have a fairly good understanding of her as a person and of her views.

In all our interactions, she has never once suggested that Estonia should be handed over to Russia on a silver platter. What she has consistently said — directly to the people — is that if this Russia-directed Russophobic rhetoric is not stopped, and if the threatening of the “big Russian bear” continues, it will have fatal consequences for both the state and the nation.

This is something Ülle has been saying since the beginning of the full-scale Ukraine–Russia war.

Sovereignty, the EU, and the Puppet Government

I myself have said in meetings and private discussions that the Republic of Estonia must maintain good relations with its neighbors and allies — but in doing so, the state and the people must not surrender their sovereignty, which in reality has already been done toward the EU and should be reversed.

The same has been said by the Objektiiv guys, and belatedly by the Helmes regarding the Ukraine war. Today we also see the President of Estonia taking timid steps in this direction — for which the neo-Marxist government scolds him and even dismissed Estonia’s ambassador to Kazakhstan for daring to advise President Karis.

This shows that cracks are beginning to form around the puppet government, and people are realizing that this group, taking instructions from abroad, is leading both nation and state toward the abyss.

Who Put These Ideas in Your Head?

Now I want to know: what has shaped your attitude toward Ülle Pukk, dear Estonian people?

Do you know her personally? Have you spoken with her face to face — not in Facebook comment sections?

What makes Ülle Pukk “pro-Kremlin,” and why is this label so desperately being attached to her?

Go stand in front of a mirror and ask yourself that.

In reality, this question is much broader than Ülle Pukk — it concerns the entire Estonian resistance movement today.

Who planted these ideas in your head? Stratcom? Martin Laine? Who?

Let’s set aside personal likes and dislikes — this question directly concerns national security.

KOOS, Repression, and “Breaking Up the Group”

You bring up Ülle Pukk’s former role on the board of KOOS.

But have you ever asked yourselves why she is no longer there?

Was she too pro-Russian even for a pro-Russian party?

My next question is directed straight at the Republic of Estonia.

Fine — KOOS was “too pro-Russian,” and Estonia, through its state repressive organs, managed to castrate the party. Peterson is in prison, Ivanov is in Russia, and Ülle Pukk is in the USA.

Now the question is this: has this “breaking up of the group” brought more benefit or more harm to Estonia — or has it served the interests of a narrow elite that feared a too-popular and pro-Russian KOOS party coming to power, which would have:

  • removed today’s Brussels puppet government

  • dismantled the elite as a result.

Today’s elite gained a time extension through this move, but lost all control over Ülle Pukk and Oleg Ivanov — who might otherwise have run a controlled party line instead of an uncontrolled resistance movement.

And the same applies to all of us — people driven by mission and principle.

And don’t start again:

“Look, Mario is writing about Ülle Pukk and Oleg Ivanov — damn Putinist!”

Take me as a truth-teller who wants real discussion in society and to make people genuinely think.

Estonians — What Is Your Plan?

The next question concerns Estonia’s Russian community, which makes up approximately 30–40% of the population.

You shout “damn Russians” and “tiblas,” ignoring the fact that these people have lived here as a community since the early Soviet migrations — third and fourth generation — not to mention those whose roots go even deeper into history.

What is your plan for this community?

History offers many examples: Germany with Jews until 1945, Stalin with Estonians and other peoples until 1953 — including Russians themselves. Or shall we go to Asia — Pol Pot in Cambodia?

Why does an Estonian want to destroy another people’s culture while simultaneously carving into our Constitution’s preamble the preservation of Estonian language and culture through the ages?

What makes us any better than those regimes and dictators?

Final Words

So what is your vision, dear Estonian people?

And I don’t want any vague talk about how “things are complicated.”

They are not complicated — unless you make them so in your own mind.

Speak plainly and without embellishment.
