I recommend that everyone watch the programme “IN FOCUS | Alar Karis’s Testament: Why Must We Lie?”
Well worth a listen!
I fully agree with Markus and Varro that lying must stop in both the liberal and conservative camps. We must speak about things as they truly are.
I often see liberals being attacked, and rightly so, because their success is built on lies. Yet I also notice the very same behaviour in the conservative camp for which we criticise liberals.
If you criticise your own camp because it takes steps that do not seem right, and ask critical questions to gain clarity, the conservative camp immediately starts putting you in your place or reacting indignantly: “How dare you even ask that?” It can go as far as labelling the person asking questions divisive, and so on.
If we tear down liberal lies while building new conservative lies with the other hand, we will simply end up swapping sides, with the conservative camp itself built on lies.
Is that really what we want? Or should we build Estonia on truth, balance, and the courage to ask critical questions?
