Against the backdrop of the threat of war, three possible shifts in public attitudes can be observed:
- Fear of war – concern for ourselves, our loved ones, and the future.
- The normalization and romanticization of war – war becomes an everyday topic of conversation, while heroism and the anticipation of victory are emphasized over suffering.
- Apathy and acceptance of war as inevitable – a feeling emerges that nothing we do matters anymore. Fear gives way to a numb anticipation of war.
