But since Estonia consistently does only the right and necessary things (drag shows, collapsing viaducts, wind turbines, donations to Ukraine, etc…), the rural folk have absolutely no objections to paying!

We are a smart nation, as President Karis has said, and proof of that lies in our progressive achievements like same-sex marriage and the Ministry of Climate. Land tax, in itself, is already a wonderful thing to pay because people love to contribute… it boosts their sense of citizenship (J. Ligi).

Think about it… if you’ve believed until now that you own something and are the rightful master of your little plot of land, it turns out that’s not quite the case. At best, you’re a tenant, nothing more.

And as Kaja has repeatedly told us, the state only wants to tax things it doesn’t favor.
Now, a more cynical person might start wondering if that means the state doesn’t favor economic activity or private property. But in reality, that’s not the case.

…it’s something else entirely…
Exactly what? No one knows.

But otherwise, everything is just fine!
