Balanced, inquisitive, and with a bright mind – all of this describes my family doctor, Helen Lasn. It is telling that people like her, who seek truth even in medicine (a fundamental requirement for any scientist), have become targets of crude cancellation attempts in recent years. Naturally, such cancellation and labeling campaigns use methods reminiscent of KGB tactics – slander, fabricated gossip, manipulation with lies and half-truths, attaching labels, and even violations of human rights.
The tools for this include media companies embedded in the system, with Delfi Media shining brightest among them, employing journalists willing to do anything for orders or money. Additionally, there are specifically formed groups on social media where discourse is characterized by vicious attacks, insults, and even obscenities. In these environments, fueled by mutual hatred, one person is singled out and attacked until direct threats emerge.
Even a person’s strengths and positive qualities are twisted into something negative amidst mockery and shouting. I recall how I myself was attacked in such groups and was accused of writing without spelling errors, being charismatic, and being able to navigate English-language scientific portals quickly (Joller’s “accusation”). Such methods are also well-known from KGB times, vividly described by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in his “The Gulag Archipelago”.
I find it unacceptable and wrong that such tyrannical tactics are used against our own people in Estonia. I fully support my family doctor against this petty, vulgar, and inhumane campaign of accusations. Together with thousands of patients, friends, and like-minded individuals, we stand firmly by your side.
Times are changing, and the truth always comes out. We will wait!
