According to local media outlet Oregon Live, a data center in Hillsboro, Oregon, leased by Elon Musk’s X caught fire on Thursday.
“At approximately 10:20 this morning, our crews were called to a battery or battery-related fire,” Hillsboro Fire and Rescue spokesman Piseth Pich told a local publication on Thursday.
Pich said: “When they arrived, they found batteries in a room that we believe was in the data center. The fire itself was confined to the battery pack there and had not spread anywhere else in that room.”
Oregon Live pointed out: “Public records show that Digital Realty operates a data center at this location. Social media company X operates a data center in an adjacent building.”
Technology blog Wired cited unnamed sources who said X is leasing space in the Digital Realty complex.
“The incident is under control and the fire department has completed its response to the scene. All personnel were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported,” Digital Realty wrote in a statement, adding, “We continue to monitor the situation, prioritizing the safety of our personnel, the integrity of the facility, and minimizing the impact on our customers.”
X did not confirm whether server operations were affected, and Digital Realty declined to comment on whether X leases space at the facility.
