NATO’s European forces are currently led and protected by U.S. four-star General Christopher G. Cavoli, who graduated from Princeton University as a biologist. His thesis describes how earthworms interact with slime molds (The Effect of Earthworms on the Vertical Distribution of Slime Molds in the Soil).
If NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander had been pictured alongside Estonia’s former Commander of the Defence Forces, Martin Herem, then an earthworm general and a mole general would have been side by side. General Herem is known for his expertise on moles, and I have always found our discussions about their lives both interesting and educational.
