Defense capability is not just about how many tanks or planes we have!

Opinion

When reflecting on where we have arrived as a society, it’s interesting to consider with what kind of soldiers we are defending against Russia. I’m not at all surprised that Russia feels confident. Wars cannot be won with equipment alone, because to operate that equipment, we need soldiers who can handle themselves on the battlefield even when the equipment is destroyed.

Unfortunately, we have shaped a society that cannot withstand pressure and that would likely surrender within the first month, yearning to retreat home to soft bed sheets to avoid damaging their skin.
Excessive liberalism in raising children is starting to bear its fruits, especially now, in a wartime situation. There is simply no one capable of being sent to war who could deliver results on the battlefield. The war in Ukraine is showing Western societies what war truly is.

The idea of occasionally heading into the woods to fire artillery and marvel at how cool allied tanks and planes are does not prepare us for the reality of war. Even for those of us who grew up under the Soviet system, war would be a significant challenge. Excessive comfort has spoiled us. Some of us cannot even imagine life without a warm morning shower or flushing our waste away. But being in a trench for months, surrounded by your own filth, with limited food and water, and witnessing the deaths of your comrades—sometimes with pieces of your friend’s brain landing on your face—would be an incredibly brutal test, and only the strongest would survive it.

Preparing for war must start in middle school, where boys are shaped into men and girls into women, equipping them to endure any mental and physical challenges the situation in our region might demand.

Just as electric cars are unsuitable for our climate, we cannot afford to be rainbow-flag-waving liberals living next to Russia. Instead, we must be strong nationalists with solid values, proud of our country and people, and willing to defend them at any cost.

Unfortunately, at the moment, the reality is quite the opposite.

Estonia

Estonians must abandon wishful thinking and speak of things as they truly are and were!

As an introduction to this piece, I must mention that the perspectives presented are strictly based on my own...
