According to the Estonian Minister of Social Affairs, Latvian doctors who elected Ilze Aizsilniece as their president are also supporters of pseudoscience.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Ilze Aizsilniece on May 11. Dr. Aizsilniece was a member of the Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) Council of Council Members, President of the Latvian Medical Association (LĀB), and a practicing family physician and homeopath.
Angelika Krūmiņa, Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine of RSU and Vice President of the LĀB, recalls her colleague: “In our collaboration, Ilze was always thorough and innovative. In every meeting and session we attended together, she stood out for her attention to detail, deep involvement, fresh ideas, and openness to innovation. Her organizational skills were consistently excellent.”
Ilze was also deeply loyal to Riga Stradiņš University (RSU), actively promoting cooperation between the Latvian Medical Association and the university. She held her alma mater in high regard, appreciating its achievements in science, its role in training new generations of doctors, and its contribution to organizing international events.
Dr. Aizsilniece will always be remembered as a physician with strong vision, professional conviction, and deep care for her colleagues, students, and society.
Born in 1966, he graduated from the Latvian Academy of Medicine (now RSU), studied law at the University of Latvia, and completed a healthcare management training course in London. In 2016, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Latvian Medical Association.
Dr. Aizsilniece was a physician, leader, and inspiration
The Latvian Medical Association writes in memory of Ilze Aizsilniece: “Her life was dedicated to people, her calling as a doctor, and the strengthening of the Latvian healthcare system. With her professional conviction, humanity, and sense of responsibility, she inspired colleagues, patients, and everyone who worked with her. Her work and values will remain in the memory of both doctors and patients.”
The Latvian Nurses’ Association expressed its condolences, writing: “Family doctor, homeopath and President of the Latvian Medical Association, Ilze Aizsilniece, was an outstanding physician and leader whose work and vision inspired many. Her contribution to the development of the healthcare system and the working environment of doctors is invaluable. Her passing is a great loss for the entire Latvian society. May her memory live on in our hearts.”
