People have long been complaining that Estonia’s mainstream media is not adequate and spreads quite a lot of propagandistic information. I have also thought that, for example, drone incidents and the threat from Russia are discussed in a rather neutral tone. Political parties keep the fear of war alive because it benefits them, but the news does not actually reflect the real security situation—instead, the public is fed pre-processed information shaped by strategic communications.
The reason why the people of Estonia are kept in an information blackout until the last moment is very simple: the population’s ability to cooperate is relatively close to zero, and many are not willing to fight for this government and state. To prevent people from leaving the country, the full truth is not told in the news.
