Today I am thinking about the dance and song festival, which seems to have aroused conflicting feelings among the people. There are those who enthusiastically praise the professionalism of the performers who gathered and recognize their years of dedication in the highest terms, and there are those who indignantly comment on the performance program, which was polished to be politically correct and lacked the patriotic songs that have become close to the heart over the years, which have been the deeper content and foundation of this singing together throughout the ages.
We cannot ignore the prevailing situation in society, against the backdrop of which the party took place, where the government is innocently stringing the people with taxes, the bureaucracy is strangling human rights, and a merciless war is knocking on the door, which could put a bloody end to the sustainability of the Estonian nation. We are being pushed into a war that is not actually our war and which our government is blatantly PROVOCATING. Yes, it can indeed be said that the party took place during a “plague”.
As I ponder my thoughts, I understand both, because situations are not always black and white, but multi-layered and in many shades. I will say honestly that of course it was beautiful to see how the Estonian people came together so enthusiastically, defying the rain and cold, to sing and dance together and wave blue, black and white flags. Fortunately, I did not see the blue and yellow flag colors anywhere, which in itself is a great success story. This time we celebrated without Ukraine. Thank God for that too.
However, listening to the repertoire of songs, I can say that something important was missing. The songs presented no longer spoke to me in the same way as Alo Matiisen’s songs, which made the soul tender and hard, or Tõnis Mägi’s “Koit”, which always penetrates the deep recesses of the heart and makes tears flow. Yes, the people were together, they moved their mouths, but what came out of their mouths did not warm the soul.
I sadly stated that when it is necessary to protest against violence, or fight for the preservation of human rights, you will not bring the people together, even if you offer free gold. Where has all this crowd cheering under the singing arch been when it is necessary to say no to tyranny, no to war and to stand up to the Brussels dictatorship? I understand the disappointment of those people who are sober-minded and have long understood the terrible reality we actually live in. What is the point of this singing together anymore if we are all sobbing when we need to stand up for our rights and tell the truth?
It doesn’t take much courage to come together as a herd and sing songs dictated by the masters, without even daring to sing that the earth needs to be filled with children? Absurd, isn’t it?
Legend has it that there were times when Estonians sang themselves free, because Estonians are not violent people. Estonians live out their feelings by singing and dancing, not by brandishing weapons. Yes, we are a people full of strength and self-knowledge, perhaps we are capable of arguing with each other to the death, but I have never observed such hatred and bloodthirstiness among Estonians as is currently being promoted in society. I guess we should thank the media, AK and Delfi, which have carried out excellent psychoterror, opposing and nullifying dissenters and reviving the primitive and violent impulses that nest in the subconscious.
Yes, I completely understand that, against the backdrop of all the prevailing social chaos, one would have expected at least some signal from the joint party that we are aware of the real situation and that we are not satisfied with what is happening in the country. But no, not a single protest note was heard from anywhere. Not a single word about wanting to live in peace without war, not a single story about how important PEACE is for the survival of the Estonian people. They could have even released white balloons into the blue sky so that the message of PEACE would reach every home. On the contrary, at the song party, soldiers walked around with assault rifles and dogs as if it were the “new normal” and took pictures of themselves with the happy people, giving the impression that an armed soldier is as innocent a mascot as Mickey Mouse at Disneyland.
By now, dances have been danced, songs have been sung and a party has been held. The Toompea girls were able to applaud the performers in the VIP zone with satisfied faces, who dutifully gathered and who obediently sang what the hosts dictated. Now the points are written and it is good to report to Brussels that everything is great with the singing people and everything is in the best of order. Perhaps some awards will even be given to our good rulers, who have been so good at keeping order in the country. The people are ripe for war, agree to everything and ready to go to war with shining eyes as soon as the order comes. If we talk about unity, then indeed, the people have been uniformly trained to be obedient, their mouths sing and their bodies dance, but the souls of many are actually sitting in a cage, not daring to open their mouths when it is necessary to speak the truth. It is completely understandable that not all people were happy about this party, but instead are crying for their homeland, which was once sung to be free.
My soul did not get any food from this song festival, on the contrary, my soul was left empty and hungry for something more, something that would have substance and would not be fake. We stubbornly want to prove to ourselves that we are so free, so free and everything is fine, even though we have not had freedom for a long time and the economy is collapsing with a deafening roar. By proudly singing and dancing, we have allowed our country, our self-esteem, and our traditional family values to be stolen from us. The question really arises: why do we need this singing together anymore, when our gathering has become an empty entertainment for the masters? Why is all this for, when we no longer have the intelligence to understand our slavery, nor the courage to sing about what our soul is actually screaming about? What is the point of us taking pride in being able to herd the herd for entertainment purposes, but we dare not come together or gather when it is necessary to stand against violence, and dare not open our mouths when it is necessary to speak the truth? It is time to talk PEACE
