FBI agents ask court to destroy list before shaming campaign

Opinion

By Luis Cornelio via Headline USA.

A group of FBI agents involved in the Jan. 6 investigation asked a judge Thursday to destroy a Trump administration list containing the names of about 5,000 agents involved in the investigation.

Their move follows Ed Martin’s vow as newly appointed arms czar to “name” and “shame” thousands of agents who helped suppress more than 1,000 Americans allegedly involved in the January 6, 2021 protests.

The anonymous agents told U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb that Martin’s public promise signaled the federal government’s plans to release the list. They filed their first lawsuit in February, seeking to have the list destroyed or sealed.

Their Thursday filing came after Martin vowed at a Tuesday press conference to hold the agents accountable for destroying the lives of more than 1,000 people on trial on Jan. 6.

“There are some really bad characters, some people who have done really bad things to the American people. And if they can be indicted, we will indict them.”

But if they can’t be charged, we’ll name them.

And in a culture that honors shame, those should be the people who are ashamed. And that’s a fact. That’s how things work. And I believe that’s how work works.”

Agents say Martin’s rhetoric puts them at greater risk of retaliation from defendants who were pardoned on Jan. 6.

“Mr. Martin’s statements represent new and relevant facts that merit the court’s attention in considering the remedies sought by the plaintiffs,” their statement stated, according to Law and Crime  .

The agents are represented by a group of lawyers that includes Mark Zaid, who is also suing President Trump over the revocation of their security clearances.

Zaid is also representing former FBI agent Jamie Mannina in a defamation lawsuit against journalist James O’Keefe after O’Keefe released secret video footage of Mannina expressing her disdain for Trump.
